Vermont is the first residential suburb, after Hawston, on entering Hermanus from the direction of Cape Town. It is one of the newer developing areas of Hermanus. Homes in the area are aged between 0+ – 30 years. Plot sizes range between 400 – 800m2. Prices range anywhere between R2,500,000 – R10,000,000 on average. Prime seafront properties can reach R20,000,000+ depending on design, size and views. Vermont is a largely residential area and there is currently no retail or industrial trade in the suburb. It is a homely suburb with tree lined streets offering freehold, pet-friendly properties and a fairly large amount of guest houses and holiday accommodation. There are no schools, hospitals or police stations in the suburb.
Private home security is available and Hermanus CBD is a short 12 kilometer drive offering top notch medical facilities and schools. The newest addition to Hermanus, The Whale Coast Mall situated in Sandbaai, is a 7 kilometer drive offering a world class shopping experience. The closest convenience center for daily supplies, The Trading Post is situated at the entrance of Vermont in Vermont Avenue on the border of Onrus. Vermont has no sandy beaches but offers a few rock pools and a magnificent cliff path walking route along the shoreline. The suburb has a variety of established greenbelts with an active birdlife and ratepayers are particularly concerned with maintaining the natural landscapes and eco-systems in the area.
