Onrus, also known as Onrus River or Onrustrivier is an older landmark residential suburb of Hermanus. Nestled between Vermont and Sandbaai, with only two entrances into the suburb off the R43, Onrus has a life of it’s own.  Onrus comprises largely freestanding, freehold properties as well as a number of security estates and complexes.  A large percentage of the homes are older holiday homes that have been renovated and upgraded over time.  The complexes and security estates in the area are newer developments aged between 5+ to 25 years.  The average plot sizes in Onrus range between 500 – 800m2.  The average property prices range between R2,500,000 – R4,500,000 with oceanfront properties reaching as much as R15,000,000+.

Onrus has a number of public amenities including a post office and a petrol station.  There are a few quaint pubs and restaurants and a few commercial businesses and retail stores as well as art galleries and coffee shops.  For serious shopping, the Whale Coast Mall is a 4 kilometer drive and Hermanus CBD, 9 kilometers.  There are no schools or hospitals in Onrus but there are a few private doctors and dentists and the Curro Private School is only minutes away in Sandbaai.  The Onrus beach is a popular destination for surfers from far and wide and boasts an upmarket seafront restaurant as well as a kiosk for ice-creams and cold drinks on hot summer days.  The Onrus cliff path coastal walks are popular with dog owners walking their dogs on leash.
